To see who has the best motorcycle insurance rates in Utah we gathered motorcycle insurance quotes from three major carriers for a 45-year-old male rider. The data showed the most expensive carrier for the sample policy cost 55% higher than the cheapest company in Utah. 

Cheapest Motorcycle Insurance in Utah

We gathered quotes for an owner of a Harley Davidson Street Glide as a benchmark to show which insurance companies generally had the cheapest motorcycle insurance rates in Utah. Nationwide ranked with the lowest motorcycle insurance in Utah, at $460 - well below the state average and the most expensive carrier.

Above is the average premium quoted by the three major carriers and the state average for the sample policy. Out of the three motorcycle insurance companies with available data, GEICO had the second best quotes. The carrier's average annual rate quoted for our sample policy and rider was $491. Progressive had the most expensive quotes. With an average quote of $712, Progressive's rates were 55% higher than Nationwide's.

Best Motorcycle Insurance Rates In Utah: By City

We look a closer look at five of the larger cities in Utah, including the state capital. We found a similar pattern in motorcycle insurance rates – larger cities tend to have premiums that are higher than the state average. However, in the case of Utah, the larger cities only had slightly more expensive quotes and Sandy even had quotes that were below the state average.

Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah and the most populous in the state, with more than 190,000 residents. It's part of a metropolitan area with more than 1 million. It was originally called "Great Salt Lake City" after the nearby lake but it was eventually shortened. Motorcycle insurance rates in Salt Lake City were 3.7% higher than Utah's average for our sample policy and rider.

Provo, Utah

On Great Salt Lake is the city of Provo, the state’s third-largest city. It has more than 116,000 residents and home to Brigham Young University, a private higher education institution operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the largest religious university in the U.S. Motorcycle insurance rates in Provo were 3.7% higher than the state average.

West Jordan, Utah

West Jordon is a growing suburb of Salt Lake City with more than 108,000 residents. It is at the foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains and is at an elevation of 4,330 feet. Motorcycle insurance rates in West Jordan were also 3.7% higher than the Utah average.

Orem, Utah

In the north part of the state, Orem is a growing city with roughly 95,000 residents. Time rated the city one of the best places to live and it's home to Utah Valley University. Motorcycle insurance rates in Orem were 1.8% lower than the state average.

Sandy, Utah

Sandy is the sixth largest city in Utah, with about 87,000 residents. It is a suburb of Salt Lake City and the location of the soccer-specific Rio Tinto Stadium which is home to Real Salt Lake. Motorcycle insurance rates in Sandy were 4.2% lower than the Utah average.

The five places with the most expensive motorcycle insurance rates in Utah were all located relatively near Salt Lake City, the state’s largest city. This dispersion is similar to what we saw in other states, where we performed an identical study with the same sample policy. The place with the most expensive motorcycle insurance premiums was Kearns, where quotes for our sample policy were 5% higher than the state average.

Kearns, UT

The place with the most expensive motorcycle insurance rates in Utah was Kearns. The township in Salt Lake County has about 36,000 residents and is home to the Utah Olympic Oval, a speed skating rink used during the Winter Olympics. Motorcycle insurance rates in Kearns were the least affordable in Utah. Quotes for our sample policy were 5% higher than the state average.

Ogden, UT

The city of Ogden is about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City and home to roughly 84,000 residents. It’s part of a metropolitan area with nearly 600,000 residents and served as a major railway throughout history. Motorcycle insurance rates in Ogden were 4.9% higher than the state average for our sample Harley Davidson.

Brigham City, UT

Brigham City is a municipality named after Brigham Young with about 18,000 residents. It’s known for its peaches, and the 14th temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is located in the city. Rates to insure our sample motorcycle in Brigham City were 4.3% higher than the Utah average.

Logan, UT

Logan has about 49,000 residents and is part of a metropolitan area of about 125,000. It’s home to the main campus of Utah State University and is home to Utah Festival Opera, which hosts opera performances throughout the year. Motorcycle insurance rates in Logan were 4.3% higher than the state average, which ranked as the 4th highest in our analysis. 

Provo, UT

Average Motorcycle Insurance Rates In Utah: By City

This comparative study of motorcycle insurance premiums in Utah was done by gathering and analyzing quotes from three major carriers across 32 municipalities and census-designated places. Our analysis showed premiums quoted for the most expensive place were 18.6% higher than the cheapest.

Study Methodology

Our study analyzed motorcycle insurance quotes for a sample policy and rider across 32 municipalities and census-designated places in the state of Utah. The quotes we gathered were from three major carriers: Progressive, Nationwide and GEICO. The rider we gathered quotes from was a 45-year-old male who was married and had completed a motorcycle training course. He also had a clean driving record. The policy itself included bodily injury protection $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident and $50,000 in property damage coverage. The deductibles for both Comprehensive and Collision coverage were $500. The motorcycle used when gather quotes was a Harley Davidson Street Glide (1690cc) with no anti-theft device installed.
