Missouri motorcycle insurance requirements

Missouri drivers are required to have a minimum level of motorcycle insurance to ride on the road. The minimum limits are:

Coverage
Limits
Bodily injury liability$25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident
Property damage liability$25,000

Although you do not need to have more than those limits to drive legally, we strongly suggest you carry a higher level of coverage. If you are responsible for an accident, you could be held liable for more than those limits can cover.

Methodology

We gathered motorcycle insurance quotes from five major insurers in Missouri: Progressive, Nationwide, Geico, Dairyland and Allstate. Our sample rider was a 45-year-old married man who rides a 2021 Harley-Davidson Street Glide and owns a home. We used coverage limits greater than the state minimums:

  • Bodily injury liability: $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident
  • Property damage liability: $50,000
  • Collision: Included/$500 deductible
  • Comprehensive: Included/$500 deductible
  • All other coverages: Not included unless legally required
