Our study showed the most expensive place for the sample policy was 54% higher than the cost of the cheapest motorcycle insurance in Missouri.

Our analysis showed that Nationwide had the lowest motorcycle insurance rates in the state for our sample policy and rider. The premiums quoted by GEICO were also significantly cheaper than the state average and only slightly more expensive that Nationwide's for the sample policy and rider.

Out of the three insurance companies that offer motorcycle insurance and had available data, we found Progressive quoted the most expensive premiums for our sample policy and rider in Missouri. In our study, the average rate estimated by Progressive was $987, which was more than 2.5x the cost of Nationwide's. The two most affordable companies were roughly 34% lower than the three carrier mean.

It was a hub for fur trading and a starting point for expeditions westward throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, it’s a large, bustling city and home to the headquarters of numerous companies. Motorcycle insurance rates in Kansas City were 35% higher than the Missouri average.

St. Louis, MO

St. Louis is on the west bank of the Mississippi River and home to more than 300,000 residents, but is part of a metropolitan area with more than 2.8 million. It was named after Louis IX and is known for the its Gateway Arch, a 630-foot tall monument downtown. In St. Louis, motorcycle insurance quotes for our policy were 24% higher than the Missouri average.

Springfield, MO

The third-largest city in the state of Missouri has well over 150,000 residents and continues to grow in the 21st century. The "Queen City of the Ozarks" is considered the starting point of the Route 66 roadway and is home to several universities, including Missouri State University. Independence is a city with more than 116,000 residents and a suburb of Kansas City. Columbia, MO

The home to the University of Missouri has a population of roughly 115,000 residents. A number of businesses have also been founded in Columbia, including Carfax. It's a city surrounded by rolling prairies and forests, making it a great place to live for those who love the outdoors. Among the major cities and towns in Missouri, Columbia had one of the lower motorcycle insurance rates. Quotes for the sample policy and rider in Columbia were 10% below the Missouri average.

Kansas City, MO

The title of the most expensive motorcycle insurance rates in our Missouri study went to Kansas City. It is the largest city and the heart of the second largest metropolitan area in the state. The population has fluctuated between roughly 2,100 and 1,800 residents over the last 100 years. Motorcycle insurance rates in Memphis, Missouri were 23% lower than the state average.

Boonville, MO

The city of Boonville is in central Missouri, about 25 miles west of Columbia. It is adjacent to the Missouri River and outdoor recreation in the area is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Biking, fishing and other water sports are some of the most popular there. For those who would rather be on a bike, Boonville is unfortunately one of the most expensive in the state. Quotes for our sample motorcycle insurance policy were 20% higher than the Missouri average.

Study Methodology

Our study analyzed motorcycle insurance quotes for a sample policy and rider across 89 municipalities and census-designated places in the state of Missouri. The quotes we gathered were from four major carriers: Progressive, Nationwide, and GEICO. The rider we gathered quotes from was a 45-year-old male who was married and had completed a motorcycle training course. He also had a clean driving record. The policy itself included bodily injury protection $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident and $50,000 in property damage coverage. The deductibles for both Comprehensive and Collision coverage were $500.

The motorcycle used when gather quotes was a Harley Davidson Street Glide (1690cc) with no anti-theft device installed.
