How to Enter
No purchase or payment is necessary to participate in the Scholarship. ValuePenguin reserves the right to change or discontinue Scholarship at any time. To be considered for the Scholarship, please submit a response to the following two questions:
- What’s a non-essential item or activity you splurge on regularly in college? How much do you think you’ve spent on it since starting college and do you think it’s worthwhile?
- If you had to teach a personal finance class to college students, what are the top three topics you would cover and why?
Each response must be between 500 and 750 words (for a total word count between 1,000 and 1,500 words) and must be Applicant’s own original work. Applications that do not answer both essay questions will be disqualified. Applications that are shorter or longer than the word limits above will be disqualified. Applications that contain any form of plagiarism will be disqualified. Only one application per Applicant is allowed; Applicants submitting more than one application will be disqualified. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any application that it believes, in good faith, to be created by automatic means or to contain any form of plagiarism.
Applications must be submitted via a form along with the following information:
- First and last name
- Name of school currently attending
- Expected graduation date
- Undergraduate major and career goal
- E-mail address
- Whether or not you’re a first-generation college student
Responses to the essay questions and the additional information outlined above must be submitted via the form. Emailed applications will not be accepted. Applications must be submitted by December 15, 2017 at 11:59:59 PM EST in order to be considered eligible. Applications received after the deadline will be disqualified. By submitting an application, you fully agree to the Official Rules outlined in this document and to the decisions of the Sponsor, which are final and binding.
Selection of a Winner(s)
One or more judges from ValuePenguin will select a potential winner(s) based on responses to the two essay questions outlined above. Judge(s) will base their decisions on the creativity, credibility, novelty and thoughtfulness of the essay responses. The potential winner will be notified via email and will be required to complete and sign further documentation as described in this document. The Sponsor assumes no liability or responsibility for any winner notification that is lost, misdirected or not received by the Scholarship Winner(s) for any reason. At the sole discretion of the Sponsor, the Sponsor reserves the right to choose a Scholarship Winner(s) if it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible applications. Portions or all of the winning application(s) may be posted on the Sponsor’s websites or used in any marketing/promotional materials, without compensation or notification to the Scholarship Winner(s).
Scholarship Winner(s) will receive a Scholarship Award in the amount of two thousand U.S. dollars ($2,000.00 USD). Scholarship Winner(s) will not be paid directly. The Scholarship Award will be paid in one lump sum directly to the accredited institution of higher learning attended by the Scholarship Winner(s) for tuition for the semester following his or her win. Sponsor has sole discretion on timing and manner of any scholarship payments. Each Scholarship Winner will only receive one Scholarship Award. Scholarship Award may not be assigned, transferred or changed, and no cash equivalent will be awarded. The issuing of any Scholarship Award is contingent upon full compliance with the Official Rules outlined in this document. Scholarship Winner(s) must provide a letter of enrollment from his or her accredited institution of higher learning. Applicants agree to the Official Rules and agree that if any Scholarship Winner fails to provide proof of identity, refuses to complete any requested documents (i.e., letter of enrollment, tax forms, etc.), is found to have violated the Official Rules or otherwise not eligible for the award, Scholarship Award will be forfeited and another Applicant(s) will be chosen as the Scholarship Winner(s). If unable to contact a Scholarship Winner(s) within 7 business days, Sponsor reserves the right to award Scholarship to any other eligible Applicant.
All applications and writings submitted will be property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. All applications and writings can be posted and used on the Sponsor’s websites and any marketing/promotional materials at the Sponsor’s discretion, without notice or compensation to Applicant. By submitting an application for scholarship, you fully agree to these conditions. Except where prohibited, by accepting a Scholarship Award, the Scholarship Winner(s) agree that Sponsor may, without limitation, compensation or notice, use his or her name, location (city and state), photograph, voice, likeness and any other information provided in the Application in any and all media, globally, used on the website or for the purpose of advertising and promoting the Sponsor, the Scholarship or any other contest or program sponsored by ValuePenguin.
