Customer service: Considering insurer quality in service and claims

We accounted for two elements when comparing the service quality of motorcycle insurance companies in Nevada: the complaint index computed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and AM Best's financial strength rating (FSR).

Insurer
NAIC complaint index
AM Best FSR
Geico0.67A++
Dairyland2.69A+
Nationwide0.53A+
Progressive0.82A+
USAA0.85A++

NAIC complaint index: The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) divides the number of complaints an insurer receives by its market share to arrive at its complaint index. The value 1.0 represents the number of complaints an insurer is expected to have, given its size. This means that the more a complaint index exceeds 1.0, the more complaints relative to its size it has received.

AM Best: AM Best gauges the ability of insurance providers to fulfill their financial obligations to their policyholders, especially if a natural disaster or economic recession were to occur. Most companies are ranked highly by AM Best, but this tool could help you distinguish which providers are more likely to present a financial risk.
