We conducted a study to find the cheapest renters insurance offered in Nevada by collecting quotes from Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, Allstate, Farmers, and State Farm for a 1,000 square-foot rental property. For our sample renters insurance, we found that State Farm had the cheapest average annual rate of $216, which is 65% lower than the rate provided by Nationwide at $613. Best Renters Insurance Rates in Nevada: by City

The five places with the best renters insurance in Navada are all located in the northern third of the state. The place with the lowest premiums was Incline Village on the northern border of Lake Tahoe, where rates were 16% lower than the state average.

Incline Village, NV

The spot of the lowest renters insurance in Nevada goes to Incline Village. The census-designated place is on the north shore of Lake Tahoe and has a population of 8,700 residents. The place is home to Sierra Nevada College and a number of famous individuals own homes (or once did) here, including business magnate Warren Buffett, NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers and others. Renters insurance premiums at Incline Village are 12% lower than the state benchmark in our study. 

Winnemucca, NV

Winnemucca was formerly named “French Ford,” by a French trader who settled on the banks of River Humboldt in 1860. The Railroad authorities changed the name to Winnemucca in 1868 in honor of Chief Winnemucca, a local Paiute Indian. Today, the city is the only one incorporated in Humboldt County. Winnemucca also has some of the best renters insurance rates in Nevada, with premiums 15% lower than the state average.

Elko, NV

"The Heart of Northeast Nevada" has more than 18,000 residents and is home to Great Basin College. The local economy is heavily based on gold mining (Nevada is the fourth-largest producer of gold in the world) but local hot springs and geography attracts tourists. Elko ranked with the third most affordable renters insurance in Nevada; premiums in Elko are 15% lower than the state average. 

Reno, NV

At fourth place for the cheapest renters insurance in Nevada is Reno. The “Biggest Little City in the World” has more than 230,000 residents and a variety of outdoor pursuits across all seasons. Wild horses roam in the hills and alpine lakes are abundant, while in the winter, locals and tourists enjoy 15 ski resorts within a one-hour drive of Reno. Renters insurance rates are 10% lower than the state average. 

Carson City, NV

Rounding out the top five cities with low cost renters insurance in Nevada is Carson City. Its official name is the Consolidated Municipality of Carson City, and it is home to more than 55,000 residents. Like its neighboring cities across the state, Carson City has a number of hotels and casinos as well as accessibility to outdoor recreation. The city has been used as a filming location for a number of movies, including “The Shootist,” which was John Wayne’s last movie. Renters insurance quotes in are 10% lower than the state average. 

Most Expensive Renters Insurance in Nevada

On the other hand, four of the five locations with the most expensive renters insurance in Nevada are located in the southern point of the state and are either adjacent to or near Las Vegas. The place with the most expensive premiums was Laughlin, where rates were 12% higher than the state average.

Laughlin, NV

The place with the most expensive renters insurance premiums in Nevada is Laughlin. The unincorporated place is located at the very southern tip of Nevada along the Colorado River. It has a population of more than 7,300 residents and is serviced by the Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport. Premiums for renters insurance are 12% higher in Laughlin than the average for the sample property across the state. 

Boulder City, NV

Boulder City was established by the Bureau of Reclamation in 1932 to house people working on the Hoover Dam. The bureau relinquished control of the city in 1958, and in 1960, the city was officially incorporated. Boulder City was the second city in Nevada to make gambling illegal (the other being Panaca). Renters insurance rates in Boulder City are 9% higher than the state average for the same rental. 

Spring Creek, NV

The census-designated place is a bedroom community to Elko and has a population of just over 12,000 residents. The views from Spring Creek are spectacular, since it is located between the Elko Hills and the Ruby Mountains. Renters insurance premiums in Draper are 7% higher than the profiled rental we used for the state. 

Sunrise Manor, NV

Sunrise Manor is an unincorporated town in southern Nevada with almost 190,000 residents. If it were incorporated, it would be one of the largest cities in Nevada. It is directly adjacent to the east of Las Vegas. Quotes for the study sample property were 7% higher than the state average. 

Paradise, NV

Paradise is another unincorporated town in Nevada and is directly adjacent to Las Vegas, like Sunrise Manor. There is constant discussion within the community of 223,000 residents around the topic of incorporation, since the McCarran International Airport; the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and most of the Las Vegas Strip are in Paradise. The cost of insuring our rented unit are 7% higher compared to the state average.

Average Cost of Renters Insurance in Nevada: by City

Our comparative study of renters insurance premiums in Nevada was done by gathering and analyzing quotes from five major carriers across 29 cities in the state. Our analysis showed premiums from the most expensive place were 16% higher than the cheapest place in the state. Study Methodology

Our study examined renters insurance quotes for a 1,000-square-foot residence with at least $25,000 in personal property coverage and $100,000 in liability coverage. We then collected quotes for that sample residence from five of the major carriers that offer a renters insurance product in the state of Nevada. We averaged rates for the sample home in each city as a benchmark to show which cities are relatively cheaper or more expensive. Those comparative values are not indicative of what tenants can expect to pay for an annual renters insurance premium.
