Good Ratings & Reviews for Acuity Auto Insurance
Acuity's Auto Insurance offering is well-rated: there are few complaints lodged with the Better Business Bureau or the NAIC that remain open or unresolved. As measured by AM Best, the company's ability to pay out its insurance claims is healthy.
...but Average Agent Knowledge and No Anonymous Online Quoting
Acuity is a good option for people who want personal interaction, but our experience with agents was average. Agents we spoke with did not seem knowledgeable about Acuity's insurance offerings, and could only speak in generic terms about typical auto insurance liabilities and coverage. Additionally, in this internet age, we find the inability to obtain anonymous quotes online a disadvantage - consumers should be able to easily obtain quotes so that they can compare prices online and make an informed decision about what auto insurance to get. This is why we like Allstate (our pick for the best auto insurance company with agents) - consumers get the best of both worlds: a network of agents well-versed in their company's products and backed by a savvy and easy-to-use website.

Acuity Insurance Ratings
Acuity has maintained a somewhat low and local profile. There aren't many customer reviews on Acuity's auto insurance offerings, but we were able to find within the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' database references to the types of complaints that were submitted. Complaints submitted clustered around delays in claims resolutions, or denials of claims, but the majority reached a compromise or settlement of some sort. It is worthwhile to note that as a percentage of the overall industry, Acuity auto insurance's complaint index is low compared to others (better than average).

Acuity Auto Insurance Policy & Coverage
The auto insurance liability coverage from Acuity is quite standard. Outside of the usual bodily injury damage and property damage liability, secondary options such as personal injury protection, or uninsured / underinsured motorist coverage are only available in select states. The company also offers an enhanced package called their Personal Auto Enhancements Endorsements, which adds among other features accidental death payments, and increased benefit limits for medical payments or accidents / trip interruptions incurred while away on vacation. Acuity has an optional "Replacement Cost Coverage" feature that supplies a new or similar car when an insured vehicle is completely totaled under a covered loss. Drivers can choose to add this within the first two model years of their car, and get replacement protection up to the first five model years of their car. The insurer also maintains a network of 680 qualified auto body shops called "PARS (Preapproved Repair Shops)" to speed up the claims / repair process.
To obtain a quote from Acuity, prospective policyholders will need to locate a local agent in one of the 22 states the company is licensed in. Quotes cannot be obtained anonymously - local agents we called required social security numbers and driver licenses in order to run a full background check and provide a premium quote for Acuity. They did not seem that knowledgeable about Acuity's offerings, or competitive advantage versus other insurers in the local markets.
Acuity Insurance is underwritten in central heart of the United States: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
