Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card: Is It Worth It?

The Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card is aimed at individuals with average credit, who still want decent cashback rewards.

The Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card is a middle-of-the road reward credit card for those with average credit. It gives an above average cash back rate of 1.5%. The card's strength is that it provides this rate on all purchases, no matter the category. This makes it useful for consumers who charge things to their credit card that don't fit the traditional merchant categories. However, the card also charges a $39 annual fee, which seriously hurts its net value. There are plenty of options available to consumers that can provide similar or better rewards at no annual cost.

Review: Is The Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card Worth Applying For?

If you want a fixed rate cash back credit card, and your credit score is between 600 and 700, the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card may be a good choice. The chief problem this card has its $39 annual fee. Its brother, the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card, doesn’t have such a fee while retaining the same 1.5% cash back reward structure -- that difference makes it one of our top cash back credit cards. If you have a good credit score, there is no reason to get the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card over the other card.

Good For…Bad For…
Earning above average rewards rate of 1.5% on all purchasesAnyone who doesn't want a card with an annual fee
Those with outstanding credit card debt who want to do a balance transferOptimizers, who want to earn high rewards rates

Although the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card doesn't charge any fees for moving balances over, there are several better balance transfer options are available. However, if you are already interested in the card based on the rewards it provides, it’s something worth knowing about, especially if you have an outstanding balance on other cards. However, if you are just looking to get rid of debt and that is your priority consider better balance transfer credit cards.

Bottom Line: If you charge more than $7,800 per year on your credit card, this can outperform a no annual fee 1% cash back credit card -- which is the rate you'd expect out of the worst reward credit cards. If you can’t find a no annual fee credit card that averages out to a 1.5% rewards rate, then the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card is a good choice.

Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card Benefits & Features

The Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card gives users 1.5% cash back on all net purchases, regardless of category. There are no caps, so you earn the same rate no matter how much money you spend. Other types of transactions, such as cash advances and balance transfers, will not earn you any cash back. The Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card has no welcome bonus, so cardholders have no other way of earning cash back rewards through it.

The Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card is also one of the few cash back credit cards to charge an annual fee -– in this case $39. If you charge very little money to the credit card every year, you should consider getting a no annual fee card. You need to spend $2,600 on the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card in order to break even.

Balance Transfer Capabilities

You should not transfer debt to the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card. Unlike most credit cards on the market, the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card doesn’t charge any transfer fee. A typical credit card will impose a 3% to 5% fee every time you move a balance over to it. However, because the APR on the card is quite high, you would likely not save any money on interest charges.

Another fact that disqualifies the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card from making our list of best balance transfer credit cards is its annual fee. There are simply too many other options that can give consumers similar or better benefits without the added annual cost.

How Does The Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card Compare To Other Credit Cards?

It’s difficult to determine a card’s value, without an understanding of what other options people can sign up for. Below, we go over some of the most popular alternatives people look at, when considering the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card.

Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card vs Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card

The major differences between Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card and Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card come down to credit requirements and annual fee. Any way you look at it, the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card is the superior of the two options. This card provides users with the same 1.5% cash back rate at no annual fee. That means all the rewards you earn with the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card go into your pocket, and don’t have to be used to pay down some yearly charge.

Because it's much better, the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card requires an excellent credit score. That is roughly 720 or higher. In contrast, you can get the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card with a score in the 600s. If you want to start earning the 1.5% cash back rate, you have the option of getting the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card, and upgrading it to the regular Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card after your FICO score improves.

Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card vs Capital One® Platinum Credit Card

Capital One® Platinum Credit Card

The Capital One® Platinum Credit Card is another card from the issuer meant for people with average credit. This one, however, is a far worse deal. Though it charges no annual fee, it also doesn’t have any reward program. The threshold to break even on the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card is low, so even those who seldom charge things onto a credit card can still likely walk away with a better net deal.

Though the Capital One® Platinum Credit Card doesn’t charge a balance transfer fee, like the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card, we don’t recommend anyone use it for this purpose. The Platinum card doesn’t have any 0% introductory APR period. Furthermore, it has a very high interest rate: 24.99% (Variable). That’s almost seven percentage points higher than the national average.

Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card vs Chase Freedom®

If you would like to earn more than a 1.5% rewards rate, the Chase Freedom® is a good choice. The card can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate. As long as 12.5% of your purchases fall within the bonus categories, the Chase Freedom® will come out ahead, despite earning 50% less cash back on non-bonus spending. The downside of the Chase Freedom® is that it requires a little bit of management. You need to keep track of your categories and activate them quarterly, in order to get the better rewards rates.

In terms of qualifications, you can get the Chase Freedom® with average or good credit. Unless your score is in the low 600s or lower, you probably won't have any trouble getting approved for either of these cards.

Bonus Value

The bonus field shows our estimate for the value of the card’s welcome bonus. If the bonus is point or mile based, we multiply the total bonus points/miles by our estimate for their value to arrive at a dollar equivalent. We display $0 if there is no bonus or if the user doesn’t qualify for the bonus based on the current spending entered into the tool. 2-yr Rewards Value

The Rewards value is calculated by adding together the rewards earned from charging purchases to the card over two years and any welcome bonuses (if applicable). They are then multiplied by our estimated point/mile value, with any annual fees (if applicable) subtracted. All values are based on our own estimates for the dollar value of any points, miles or bonuses earned using a card and on the spend assumptions entered above (which you can edit).

How We Calculate Rewards: ValuePenguin calculates the value of rewards by estimating the dollar value of any points, miles or bonuses earned using the card less any associated annual fees. These estimates here are ValuePenguin's alone, not those of the card issuer, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by the credit card issuer.

Example of how we calculate the rewards rates: When redeemed for travel through Ultimate Rewards, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card points are worth $0.0125 each. The card awards 2 points on travel and dining and 1 point on everything else. Therefore, we say the card has a 2.5% rewards rate on dining and travel (2 x $0.0125) and a 1.25% rewards rate on everything else (1 x $0.0125).
