The Us Airways Premier World MasterCard offers great rewards and benefits that are relatively easy to achieve. The card is only available for a limited time however, as the merger with American Airlines will eventually transition this card into a AA branded card in 2015.
The US Airways credit cards are easily worth hundreds of dollars for anyone looking to fly US airways. The standout feature of the cards are the annual companion certificates, that allow you to purchase companion tickets at a heavily discounted price. For the Premier World Mastercard, you can buy two companion tickets for $99 each year. While these tickets are limited to the continental US or Canada, an additional seat on a cross country flight is easily hundreds of dollars worth of value. The few other airline cards with similar features require you to spend thousands of dollars each year to receive this perk. With the US Airways MasterCards, these come standard.
The signing bonuses for US Airways cards are also easy to achieve. While with most travel cards, consumers are required to spend a certain amount, usuallly $1,000 or more to get the associated bonus miles. With the US Airways cards the bonus miles are automatically accrued after your first purchase. With a bonus of 30,000 miles for the World and Premier World cards respectively, its a very lucrative award for just using the cards once.
If you fly more than once a year with US Airways, the Premier World Mastercard is really a must have. Even if you don't regularly travel US Airways, the companion tickets alone might be a worthwhile reason to get the card.
Won't Be Available For Much Longer
Starting in 2015 the US Airways Mastercard will become the American Airlines AAdvantage Mastercard due to the merger of the two airlines. As a result a number of the best features will no longer be available. So if you're interested in taking advantage of the current rewards and bonus structure act fast as they won't be there beginning next year.
- Annual companion certificates for discounted companion tickets are worth hundreds of dollars
- Easy to achieve lucrative signing bonuses
- The Premier World MasterCard is the much better of the two

How do I earn miles with the US Airways Premier World credit card?
You earn twice the miles for US Airways flight purchases, and one mile for other spending. There's a nice one-time signing promotion of 40,000 miles, as well as a one mile per balance transferred (up to 10,000 miles max) within the first three months of account opening. If you maximize the signing offer, those bonus miles can be converted to TWO roundtrip award flights (at the discounted Premier World rate of 20,000 miles per domestic R/T).
What special perks or privileges do I get with US Airways / Dividend Miles?
The Premier World credit card gets members a number of elite perks and benefits. For starters, US Airway credit card holders get bumped up to first class check-in and zone 2 boarding for every flight they take. Each year, cardmembers can invite two companions to join on flights at reduced prices, as well as access the US Airways Club lounge themselves for free once. Frequent flyers will love the 5,000 redemption discount on roundtrip award travel as well.
Award Redemption With The US Airways Dividend Miles MasterCard
In our review of both US Airways credit cards, we took at look at how the rewards work and what value they would have for cardholders. As with other loyalty program based credit cards, your redemption options and the actual dollar value of the miles you earn is an important factor in how the card performs.
How do I redeem rewards with the US Airways Mastercard?
Rewards can be redeemed online or over the phone for award travel (be it upgrades or airfare), subscriptions to newspapers and magazines, and donations to charities. Miles cannot be redeemed for merchandise or gift cards, unfortunately. Award travel redemptions start at 25,000 typically, but with the Premier World and World MasterCard discount, a free flight might just be 20,000 miles away in the continental United States. There are a few fees that may apply to redeem awards, particularly as it relates to booking them over the phone, or with fewer than 21 days of a travel window. Note that black-out dates for travel may apply, especially as it relates to the companion certificates.
What are US Airways miles worth?
Here are two random samples of the value and return to cardmembers for a roundtrip domestic flight, and a magazine subscription. A roundtrip ticket between New York City's JFK to Los Angeles's LAX from Sunday 2/23/14 through Saturday 3/1/14 costs $529 before taxes and fees on usairways.com, and can be redeemed for 20,000 Dividend miles with Premier World MasterCard privileges. This equates to a 2.6% return on charged spending. A 53-issue subscription to Time Magazine costs $30, or 1,200 Dividend Miles to redeem, a 2.5% return - a good return in today's travel credit cards environment.
oneworld Travel Awards Partners
With the merger of US Airways and American Airlines, Dividend miles can also be used to book awards flights on the associated oneworld member airlines. The following are the airlines where the Dividend miles can be used.
|oneworld Member Airlines|
|airberlin||Cathay Pacific||Japan Airlines|
|British Airways||Iberia||Malaysia Airlines|
|Qantas||Qatar Airways||Royal Jordanian|
|S7 Airlines||Sri Lankan Airlines||TAM Airlines|
The amount of Dividend Miles needed to get a flight on these member airlines is based upon where you are flying from, where you are flying to and the cabin class of your itinerary. For the up to date awards travel chart see here.
The US Airways Companion Certificates
The annual complimentary tickets are the most valuable benefit of the card.
How Do The Companion Certificates Work?
Each year you'll receive a companion certificate that allows you to buy additional companion tickets for people flying with you at a heavily discounted price. For the World Mastercard you get one ticket for $149, and the Premier World, two for $99 each. One thing to note however, is that with the Premier World Mastercard, the two additional tickets must be used for the same itinerary, and can not be split up over multiple trips. So save it for when you're flying with at least 3 people to maximize its value. The companion tickets are usable on round trip flights. Blackout days do apply to these tickets, so they're best used when planned for in advance.
For new cardholders, your first companion certificate should arrive within 2-4 weeks of receving your US Airways Credit Card. Additional certificates are awarded annually.
What Is The Value Of The Certificate?
The value of the the certificate will depend on the flights you choose to use them on. Overall the math is pretty simple, just subtract the cost of the companion ticket from the total fare you would normally have to pay. On cross country trips with US Airways this discounted price is easily worth hundreds and possibly even more than a thousand dollars. The tickest are best used for longer flights, since you'll achieve the most savings when doing so.
Changes Coming In 2015
The biggest change in 2015 is the loss of the Annual compnaion pass. That's a huge loss in value as it's the best value feature of having the US Airways card. Some of the other ancillary features that will be discontinued include First class check-in, Free annual club pass and discount towards US Airways Club membership, the 5,000 mile rebate for US Airways award redemptions, and the 10,000 Preferred Qualifying Miles after $25,000 in spending.
