The Uber Visa Card is a high-value rewards card that offers rewards in the form of Uber Cash for spending on Uber and Uber Eats, JUMP electric scooters and bikes, dining, hotels and airfare.
Uber Visa Card: High value for the modern spender
Earn up to 5% Uber Cash
The Uber Visa Card gives cardholders several ways to earn rewards. Cardholders earn 5% back in Uber Cash on Uber rides, Uber Eats, and JUMP, 3% in Uber Cash on restaurants, bars, hotels, and airfare, and 1% back in Uber Cash on all other purchases.
Rewards are in the form of Uber Cash, which can be redeemed for Uber rides, orders on Uber Eats, and for JUMP bikes and scooters. When you accrue $50 in Uber Cash by using your card, it will automatically transfer to your Uber account. You can also select the option to manage your card from your Uber account and manually transfer your Uber Cash.
$0 annual fee and competitive fees for other transactions
The Uber Visa Card has a $0 annual fee, while the foreign transaction fee is none. So you earn points stateside or abroad at no cost. Just remember to pay off your bill each month to avoid interest charges.
The Uber Visa Card does charge fees for balance transfers and cash advances, but the fees are in line with what other credit cards charge for the same transactions. The balance transfer fee is either $10 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater. The cash advance fee is the same.
Phone damage and theft protection
Pay for your monthly wireless telephone bill with your Uber Visa Card and your phone will be covered if it’s stolen or damaged. The coverage is up to $600 per claim, subject to a $25 deductible. You can have a maximum of two claims a year for a total of $1,200. You have to file a claim within 90 days of the damage or theft to qualify.
Visa Local Offers
Visa Local Offers is a Visa benefit for Uber users who add a Visa card to their account as a payment method. Through the program, you can earn Uber Cash for spending money at featured stores and restaurants that change weekly.
To sign up in the Uber app, add a Visa card to your account and then go to "Payment," "Payment Offers" and then click "Earn Uber Cash with Visa." Examples of Visa Local Offers include Dunkin’ Donuts, Qdoba Mexican Eats and Regal Cinemas.
No introductory offer; low bonus offer
If you’re looking for an introductory 0% APR offer or bonus point windfall, you aren’t going to find one with this card. With the Uber Visa Card, Earn $100 in Uber Cash after spending $500 on purchases in the first 90 days from account opening
You need to spend about $166 a month for three months to qualify for this offer, which is pretty easy to do if you ride Uber frequently or hit the grocery store once a week.
There’s no low-interest offer for balance transfers or new purchases. ValuePenguin's verdict: Great for Uber riders and travelers
The Uber Visa Card is a good choice if you use the Uber ecosystem frequently, and want to earn rewards on dining and travel. You can even apply for the card in the Uber app by clicking "Menu," "Payment" and then "View All Offers." Another benefit is that The Uber Visa Card also comes with a complimentary FICO Score, which can help you track your credit score’s ups and downs.
The only limiting aspect about this card is that you can only redeem rewards for Uber Cash, not cash back or other options.
Alternatives to the Uber Visa Card
The Uber Visa Card doesn’t have an introductory offer and may not be the best choice if you spend heavily in a specific category. Heavy dining and entertainment spenders may find more value from the Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards Credit Card. Meanwhile, travelers may find the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card has better incentives. Or if you’re looking for a 0% intro APR offer on balance transfers, the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer could be a better alternative.
