Southwest Rapid Rewards points are multipurpose — you can redeem them for flights or save them for the coveted Southwest Companion Pass. Whatever your goal, you won't want to miss out on the additional points-earning opportunities on the Southwest Rapid Rewards shopping portal.
Airline shopping portals are surprisingly easy to use and can help you rack up points on most of your online purchases. It takes just one extra step before checkout to collect these bonus points, so leveraging this shopping portal is a no-brainer for frequent Southwest Airlines flyers.
What to know about the Southwest Rapid Rewards shopping portal
As a Southwest Rapid Rewards member, you'll earn points on all of your miles flown. Even better, members can access the Southwest Rapid Rewards shopping portal, giving the potential to earn points at over 850 stores. From Apple to Lululemon to The Home Depot, you can earn bonus points effortlessly at stores you already shop at.
There's no limit to the number of points you can earn with the Rapid Rewards shopping portal. However, you won't earn points on taxes, extra charges, shipping costs or returned products. Each merchant will offer a different bonus points rate, but you could earn as much as 20 points per $1 spent.
You'll also need to register for your account with your Rapid Rewards number so that Southwest Airlines can properly credit your points. Using the shopping portal will take a bit more due diligence but will be worth the effort — we'll take you through the process from start to finish.
Step #1: Find your store online
First, you'll visit the shopping portal and search for your store under the "Find a store or product" tab. If you're interested in seeing the stores that the shopping portal offers, you can browse through the directory using the "Explore stores and more" tab.
Let's say you're interested in shopping at Nike. You'll visit the Southwest Rapid Rewards shopping portal website and search for Nike, which will then pull up a list of current offers, which could range from free shipping or additional coupons. You'll click the offer that is the most appealing to you, which will then redirect you to Nike's website.
Alternatively, you can add the Rapid Rewards Shopping button to your browser to be notified every time a merchant partners in this program. This will ensure that you don't forget to use the shopping portal each time you shop online.
Step #2: Shop normally through Southwest Airlines’ unique link
The Rapid Rewards shopping portal is merely a gateway into all of the available merchants. Once you reach Nike's website, you'll shop as you would normally. There are no extra steps once you get here, and you'll merely add the products to your shopping cart.
Using this unique link to shop on Nike will ensure that you earn Rapid Rewards points on your purchase. Be careful not to veer off this link — if you search for Nike on a separate tab, you might not earn your points accordingly.
Step #3: Receive your bonus points, credited to your Rapid Rewards account
It's that simple — you'll receive a confirmation email within three to five days once your order has been shipped. In some cases, this email could take up to 15 days. It will state the number of points you've earned with each transaction, and then you'll be able to see your posted points balance on your Rapid Rewards account.
Southwest Rapid Rewards shopping portal promotions
When registering for your account, you can opt in to receive marketing emails that will alert you of any special promotions. Some stores will offer an elevated earnings rate for a limited time. Alternatively, you can browse through these offers on the "Extra rewards" tab on the shopping portal.
For example, by purchasing a subscription to The Motley Fool through the shopping portal, you could earn a whopping 10,700 Rapid Rewards points — worth over $160 according to our miles valuation. These points alone could get you a one-way ticket from San Diego (SAN) to Honolulu (HNL).
You'll not only receive word about bonus points with select merchants, but you'll also be alerted about limited-time promotions exclusive to Southwest Airlines. For instance, you could earn an additional 1,000 points after spending $300 on the shopping portal. These opportunities are excellent ways to rack up a ton of miles in no time.
