How to book a vacation package through American Airlines

Booking a vacation through American Airlines is a quite streamlined process when you book online. As mentioned above, first navigate to and search for your desired trip. Once you've selected your itinerary, you can check out online and pay with a credit card. For more complicated bookings, you can contact a travel agent for assistance.

Travel agents

While booking a trip through American Airlines Vacations is primarily done online, AA also provides the option to call in and speak with a travel agent to modify or cancel a booking. You can reach an agent at the American Airlines call center between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

You can also contact an AA Vacations travel agent after hours or if there's an emergency on your trip. If you call outside of regular business hours, you can leave a message and an agent will get back to you. The phone number for emergency calls is 1-800-901-9150, which is toll free within the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. From Mexico, the emergency line is 1-877-809-2766.

All-inclusive vacations

One of the most popular booking options with American Airlines Vacations is an all-inclusive vacation package. Typically, these packages include round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, transportation and, most importantly, a range of amenities including food, drink and more at the hotel. When searching for a weeklong getaway in the Bahamas, we found a variety of options at a fair price.

If you're looking to book an all-inclusive vacation package, be sure to check the terms of each hotel's deal. Some hotels and resorts may include recreational activities and premium beverage and dining options, while others may only provide a basic accommodations and meal package. You can always consult the hotel's website if you're unsure of what services they provide.

Disneyland vacations

One of the most popular vacation packages booked through AA is a Disneyland vacation. To book a trip to Disneyland through American Airlines, navigate to its Vacation Types page and click on the Disney Deals banner. You can book a package that includes flights and hotel accommodations with AA Vacations, but you'll have to buy tickets to the theme parks separately.

By booking through American Airlines Vacations, you may be able to score extra deals and discounts to Disney's parks. While you can't buy tickets to Disney directly through AA, it's possible to get promo codes to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and more. Plus, you can get a great deal on flights and hotels through AA Vacations.

Vacation packages to Hawaii

Booking a vacation package to Hawaii through American Airlines can significantly cut down on the cost of a trip to the islands. Deals for vacations on Oahu start at just under $2,000 per person for a weeklong package that includes flights, hotels and a rental car.

The one downside to booking through AA Vacations is that you'll only be able to access traditional hotel accommodation options. If you'd prefer booking a home rental, it's a better idea to go with Airbnb or Marriott Homes and Villas. However, you can still book a package with a rental car and flight through American Airlines.

Is American Airlines Vacations worth it?

If you value convenience and prefer traditional hotel accommodations, booking a vacation package through American Airlines is a good choice. The prices are relatively competitive with other travel booking sites, and you'll save time by purchasing your flight, hotel and car rental in one place. For most people, AA Vacations is a solid vacation booking option that can help you save time on the planning process.

You'll likely be better off booking individual flight, sleep and rental car accommodations if you prefer deal hunting or staying in places off the beaten path. However, it can still be worth it to explore booking options on AA Vacations to see if you can find a discounted flight.

How We Calculate Rewards: ValuePenguin calculates the value of rewards by estimating the dollar value of any points, miles or bonuses earned using the card less any associated annual fees. These estimates here are ValuePenguin's alone, not those of the card issuer, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by the credit card issuer.

Example of how we calculate the rewards rates: When redeemed for travel through Ultimate Rewards, Chase Sapphire Preferred points are worth $0.0125 each. The card awards 2 points on travel and dining and 1 point on everything else. Therefore, we say the card has a 2.5% rewards rate on dining and travel (2 x $0.0125) and a 1.25% rewards rate on everything else (1 x $0.0125).
