"On Your Side" Philosophy
Nationwide Insurance has a motto called "On Your Side" that influences how auto insurance claims are handled, and policies and premiums are determined. For example, repairs to an insured car done through their network of auto body shops comes with written guarantees. With their AutoWatch feature, you can keep tabs on the repair process in detail by learning about which of the ten steps of the repair process its in, and looking at photos of your car in various stages of getting fixed. The ten steps are: repair cost estimate, insurance approval, inner structure disassembly, auto parts ordering, frame / structural repair, exterior / metal paneling repair, reassembly, detailing, to finally, delivery.
Find The Cheapest Auto Insurance Quotes In Your Area
The company also recommends getting an annual checkup of insureds' policies to see that policyholders understand their Nationwide Auto Insurance benefits and declarations, as well as new discounts or changes to keep premiums level and coverage adequate. This consultation is called their "On Your Side" Review.
Nationwide Auto Insurance Premium Comparison
From sample premiums obtained in California, Nationwide ranked on the more expensive end of auto insurance for two demographics we reviewed: married couples and seniors. For example, the average premium for married couples quoted by Nationwide was $1,684 compared to a state average of $1,156 - almost 46% more than the state average. That sample premium ranks Nationwide 4th most expensive among the largest insurers in California. With Nationwide, senior citizen drivers are paying $963 compared to a state average of $889.
Mixed Reviews of Customer Service and Agents
While its complaint index is lower than the national average, the customers reviewed that communication with Nationwide auto insurance agents and customer service representatives was poor. Some customers reported that representatives provided inconsistent answers to questions about car insurance policies, or records were updated in an uncoordinated manner. Others have claimed that when it comes to handling claims, adjusters and other claims personnel don't return calls in a timely manner. In the 2013 JD Power & Associates Auto Insurance Study, Nationwide ranked "Average" at best in the regional categories, and even below average in the state of New York.
