Is the New Business Card! Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card worth it?

The Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card can definitely be worth it — especially if you spend enough to earn the highest cash back rate and sign-up bonus. Cardholders Earn unlimited 2.5% total cash back on purchases of $5,000 or more and unlimited 2% cash back on all other business purchases.

Along with a generous flat cash back rate on every purchase, the card offers a hefty sign-up bonus and valuable travel benefits and protections – which can more than make up for the card’s annual fee.

That said, perhaps the biggest downside of the card is the inability to transfer rewards to transfer partners or combine them with Ultimate Rewards from other Chase credit cards.

Get a large sign-up bonus up front

When you sign up for the Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card, you can Earn $1,000 bonus cash back after you spend $10,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening..

Rewards are worth 1 cent each when redeemed for cash, gift cards or travel — making the sign-up bonus worth $1,000. You can also use rewards to pay for products and services.

While this is an extremely high sign-up bonus, keep in mind that the spend amount required to earn the bonus is also very high. By comparison, some business credit cards only require you to spend $3,000 in the first three months to earn the bonus.

How much is it worth? $1,000

Who's eligible to earn this bonus? To be eligible for the bonus, your Ink Business Premier account must be open and not in default. Additionally, Chase has an unwritten 5/24 rule, which prevents you from being approved for a Chase business credit card if you’ve opened five personal credit cards from the issuer in the last 24 months.t card.

Earn simple rewards at a high flat rate

The Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card lets cardholders Earn unlimited 2.5% total cash back on purchases of $5,000 or more and unlimited 2% cash back on all other business purchases.

This is a fantastic deal for business owners who want a simple approach to earning rewards and who make several large purchases of $5,000 or more throughout the year.

For example, if you spend $50,000 on purchases of less than $5,000 each, you’ll earn $1,000 in cash back. But if you spend $50,000 on several purchases of $5,000 or more each, you’ll rack up $1,250 in cash back from those purchases.

That said, if you want to maximize the value of your credit card rewards to use toward travel, you’ll likely be better off with a business credit card that allows you to transfer points to airline and hotel partners, like the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. You may also want to consider a card that offers American Express Membership Rewards.

Here's a rundown of how much in rewards value you could glean with different business cards on a per-dollar basis.

Average rewards earned per $1 spent

Redemption options are its main downside

We keep saying that the Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card isn't as flexible for travel, but what does that really mean?

Primarily, the Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card doesn’t allow you to transfer rewards to airline and hotel partners like other Chase travel credit cards. Additionally, you can’t combine Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card rewards with Ultimate Rewards from other Chase cards in order to maximize their value. Ultimately, this makes the Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card less valuable than other Chase Travel cards.

Depending on how you redeem them, Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card rewards are worth the following:

  • Cash back: 1 cent per point
  • Travel: 1 cent per point
  • Gift cards: 1 cent per point
  • Shop with points: 0.8 cents per point

How much are Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card points worth?

Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card points are worth 1 cent each when redeemed for cash, travel and gift cards. Unfortunately, unlike other Chase credit cards, there's no opportunity to increase the value of your points through redemption bonuses or by transferring them to outside loyalty programs. The highest value you can get is 1 cent per point.

Should you apply for the Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card?

The Ink Business Premier℠ Credit Card is definitely worth considering, but you have to think about what you're giving up. You can earn lucrative cash back on every dollar your business spends, but you'll never have the option to transfer points to Chase travel partners or pool points with other Chase cards that have this functionality.

If you want to earn regular cash back and you don't travel often, this may be perfectly fine. Otherwise, it makes more sense to consider business cards with rewards for travel, including the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card or the Capital One Spark Miles for Business.

Fortunately, many of the best business cards on the market today offer flexible rewards and their own selection of benefits, so you're bound to find a card that offers the features you want the most.

How We Calculate Rewards: ValuePenguin calculates the value of rewards by estimating the dollar value of any points, miles or bonuses earned using the card less any associated annual fees. These estimates here are ValuePenguin's alone, not those of the card issuer, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by the credit card issuer.

Example of how we calculate the rewards rates: When redeemed for travel through Ultimate Rewards, Chase Sapphire Preferred points are worth $0.0125 each. The card awards 2 points on travel and dining and 1 point on everything else. Therefore, we say the card has a 2.5% rewards rate on dining and travel (2 x $0.0125) and a 1.25% rewards rate on everything else (1 x $0.0125).
