While you can earn rewards such as discounts and upgrades with the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card, its long-term value pales compared to a cashback or travel rewards card.

If you like cruising in style, Royal Caribbean's premium line of cruises, Celebrity Cruises, may be your best bet. Offering a wide range of destinations and an impressive 2-to-1 guest-to-staff ratio, Celebrity Cruises is one of the most stunning cruise lines in the industry.
For loyal Celebrity Cruises voyagers, the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card offers credit card rewards and discounts. With a $69 annual fee, you'll be able to earn bonus points through the MyCruise Rewards program — redeemable for upgrades, bookings and more.
However, the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card is only worthwhile if you take a Celebrity, Azamara or Royal Caribbean cruise at least once per year. Otherwise, consumers should choose a cashback or travel rewards card that better suits their needs.
Table of contents
The Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card comes with a sign-up bonus that comes in two parts:
Get a 10,000 bonus points after making a qualifying transaction in the first 90 days of account opening, and a $100 statement credit after you spend at least $1,000 on purchases within the first 90 days of account opening.
While you'll need to meet the $1,000 spending minimum to receive the $100 statement credit, the 10,000 bonus points from this sign-up bonus are easy to attain. However, the sign-up bonus' value is mediocre compared to other cards that charge an annual fee.
For example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card lets you Earn 80,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $1,000 when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards®. Plus earn a $50 statement credit towards grocery store purchases within your first year of account opening. Although this card comes with a $95 annual fee, the value of the sign-up bonus easily makes up for it.
What it's worth: $200: $100 in statement credit and $100 in onboard credit
Who's eligible to earn this bonus? This is a one-time promotion limited to new account holders.
The Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card lets users earn points through the Bank of America MyCruise Rewards program, redeemable on Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Azamara cruises.
Earn 2 points per $1 spent on qualifying purchases with Celebrity Cruises and our sister brands, Royal Caribbean International® and Azamara Cruises®. Earn 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
These rewards points are valued at $0.01 each, making the card's rewards rate fall between 1% and 2%. Because the categories where you’ll be earning 2% are quite restricted, this card’s rewards rate isn't the best — especially as other cards are much more rewarding on everyday purchases.
There are several restrictions to make note of: Each calendar year, you can earn up to 540,000 MyCruise points, and points will expire five years from the month they were earned.
How much are Celebrity Cruises points worth?
For most redemptions, including onboard credit and discounts, Celebrity Cruises points are worth 1 cent each. There are some redemption options, such as certain room upgrades and cruise bookings, that are worth up to 2 cents each. However, these higher-prized rewards will require a lot more points for redemption.
Your MyRewards points give you the option to redeem on Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean or Azamara. You can view all of your MyRewards points in one place and select the cruise line you'd like to redeem your rewards with. Redemptions start at 1,000 points, and each rewards chart offers various selections, including:
- Onboard credits and amenities
- Stateroom and cruise upgrades
- Booking discounts
- Companion fares
- Cruise bookings
The majority of redemption options will net you a value of 1 cent per point. However, you can extract more value from your rewards by selecting the better redemption option. For example, you can use 50,000 points for a $500 onboard credit on any of the three cruise lines or a three to four night Royal Caribbean cruise booking of a value no more than $1,000. By opting for the former option, you'll receive 1 cent per point, while the former could yield up to 2 cents per point.
Keep in mind that you must redeem your points at least seven days before your ship sails, and all redemption selections are final and non-transferable.
Exclusive cruise discounts
The Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card comes with several notable discounts:
|One-time $50 airfare discount through Flights by celebrity upon card approval||Discount expires 18 months from issue date|
|One-time $300 discount on a future cruise after making at least $5,000 on transactions within the first 60 days of account opening||Discount expires 18 months from issue date|
|10% discount on Premium Beverage Packages||Must be booked 7 days prior to sailing date|
|10% discount on Private Journeys shore excursions for up to four people on the same tour||Must be booked 30 days prior to sailing date|
|50% off second guest at any specialty restaurant||Must be booked 7 days prior to sailing date|
Some consumers may be able to snag the $300 discount on a future cruise, although the spending threshold is relatively high for a limited window. Meanwhile, the ongoing discounts can help those who travel in groups or purchase any ancillary products. If you're able to take advantage of all these discounts, the $69 annual fee is reasonable in comparison.
Other card benefits
The Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card comes with None foreign transaction fees, ideal if you're paying with a different currency in another international country. In addition, your card can protect you as a consumer with the following features:
- $0 fraud liability
- Contactless card technology
- Overdraft protection
- Account alerts
How does the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card compare to other cards?
Here are some alternatives to the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card — we’ll go over how these other cards compare, in terms of bonuses, rewards rates and ongoing perks.
Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card vs. Royal Caribbean Visa Signature® card
The Royal Caribbean Visa Signature® card is a very similar offering to the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card, but with $0 annual fee. The sign-up bonus is even the same: 10,000 bonus points after your first qualifying transaction within 90 days of account opening, and a $100 statement credit after making $1,000 in purchases within 90 days of account opening.
This card also earns points through the MyCruise Rewards program, which can also be used for Celebrity Cruises. However, if you're more interested in the discounts that the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card offers, that’s the card you should apply for. Its one-time and ongoing discounts are exclusive to Celebrity Cruises — and as such are better for those loyal to that cruise line.
Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card vs. Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer
The Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer outperforms the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card when it comes to rewards from everyday spending — all with $0 annual fee. With the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer, users Earn 2% on every purchase with unlimited 1% cash back when you buy, plus an additional 1% as you pay for those purchases. This is a much better earning rate than that offered by the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card — which only offers double points on cruise line purchases.
However, the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer doesn't come with any sign-up bonuses or ongoing discounts. If you're a frequent Celebrity Cruises traveler and can justify the $69 annual fee by leveraging the discounts, the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card would be the better option for you.
Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card vs. Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is among the best all-around travel rewards cards available. Although it comes with a slightly higher $95 annual fee, it also comes with a larger sign-up bonus: Earn 80,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $1,000 when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards®. Plus earn a $50 statement credit towards grocery store purchases within your first year of account opening.
Additionally, you'll earn 2X points on dining at restaurants including eligible delivery services, takeout and dining out and travel & 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases worldwide. You can use Ultimate Rewards points for travel — including flights, hotels, cruises and more — as well as a long list of other redemption options. For a better earnings rate and true rewards flexibility, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card will be much more lucrative than the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card.
Is the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card worth it?
There are very few individuals who will find the Celebrity Cruises® Visa Signature® Credit Card worthwhile. The MyCruise Rewards program is limited to cruise redemption options, offering far less flexibility than other loyalty programs. While the discounts could be promising, they would only be helpful for frequent Celebrity Cruises travelers.
