Both Brooks Brothers credit cards are an excellent way to save money when you shop with the clothier. Of the two, we strongly recommend going with the Brooks Brother Platinum Mastercard, rather than the Brooks card, because it provides better benefits at the same cost. These cards are not good for readers who want a credit card to use for everyday shopping, meaning for use at a grocery store or at the gas station. If you want an all-around credit card you should instead consider a cash back credit card.

Note: In this review, unless otherwise noted, references to the "Brooks Brothers credit card" mean the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard. The Brooks Card is mostly omitted because it is an inferior choice, as we explain below.

Review: Is the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard Worth Applying For?

The Brooks Brothers Credit Card is an excellent way to save money on Brooks Brothers purchases. However, this is not the right choice for consumers who want a single credit card that's ideal for all their purchases. The Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard is instead a worthy secondary card, because it's not as well-rounded as some cards. You can find better cash back rewards by signing up for other cards, like the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer. Since both the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard and the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer come with No Annual Fee, getting both is a valid option as well.

Good for…Bad for…

Deal hunters.People looking for cash back rewards.

Other than its lack of rewards for shopping at other stores,, the Brooks Brothers credit card is an excellent choice. Like many of the top store credit cards, it gives loyal customers plenty of ways to save money. You get discounts for opening the card, annual gift cards sent to you on your birthday, and exclusive access to other specials throughout the year. Given that you get these perks with No Annual Fee, the Brooks Brothers credit card is a must-have for anyone who frequently shops at the store.

To check out exactly what this card has to offer, we recommend reading the benefits section below.

Bottom Line: An excellent choice for Brooks Brothers customers who want to save some money on their purchases. This is not an ideal card for people who want a credit card for general everyday use. Instead, the Brooks Brothers card is best used only at Brooks Brothers stores, and nowhere else.

Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard Benefits & Features

There are two Brooks Brothers credit cards—the Brooks Card and the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard. The former is a store card, meaning you can only use it at Brooks Brothers stores. Both cards award 4 points per dollar on every in-store and online purchase at Brooks Brothers. The Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard also awards 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. For each 2,000 points you earn, with both cards, you'll receive a $20 rewards card that can be used at Brooks Brothers stores. You'll have six months to use these cards once you receive them, after which they expire.

The Brooks Brothers credit cards also come with a decent sign-up bonus. You get 15% off in-store purchases. With the Brooks Card, the discount lasts for just one day after you open the card. With the Mastercard, that benefit lasts one month. It's best, then, to sign up for this card immediately before you plan to make a lot of big purchases at the store. That way you maximize your savings. Consumers with the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard also get a $20 rewards card once they make their first purchase outside of a Brooks Brothers store . To qualify for this perk, you must make that first purchase first 60 days after your account is opened.

Another money-saving perk of the Brooks Brothers credit cards is a $20 anniversary bonus. Every year, on your birthday, you'll receive a $20 rewards card in the mail. To qualify, you must have made at least one purchase on your Brooks Brothers credit card within the previous 12 months.

Both cards provide users with access to special cardholder sales events four times a year. During these periods, shoppers with a Brooks Brothers credit card can enjoy special discounts at the store. These events tend to be seasonal in spring, summer, fall, and winter. For example, last fall, from November 3rd to the 7th, customers received a 25% discount on online orders. A slightly lower discount of 15%, was available to non-cardmembers during that same time.

Mastercard Benefits

The Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard provides additional benefits through the Mastercard network. These are not unique to the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard, however, but are offered with any Mastercard credit card. We have highlighted the benefits below.

  • 60-Day Price Protection: If the price of an item you bought using your Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard drops within 60 days of the purchase, Mastercard will refund you the difference, up to a set amount. You should familiarize yourself with your benefits pamphlet to find out the specifics of this perk. You can also check out ValuePenguin's guide on price protection.
  • Extended Warranty: Anything you buy using the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard will have its manufacturer's warranty doubled, But this only applies to warranties of up to 12 months. The benefit also extends to warranties you purchase, so long as they fit in the aforementioned 12 months or less.

How Does the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard Compare to Other Credit Cards?

To understand a credit card's value, we examined how it performed against other potential options. We compared the two Brooks Brothers credit cards and also took a look at how they compare to one of the best cash back credit cards currently available.

Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard vs The Brooks Card

We recommend people apply for the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard over the Brooks Card. Both have No Annual Fee, and the former is better in every respect. The advantages of the Platinum card include: a $20 first-purchase bonus, all the aforementioned Mastercard benefits, and the ability to earn Brooks Brothers reward points anywhere you shop.

Note: The Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard advertises 'Cash access from ATMs' as a feature not present in the Brooks Card. While this is true, we don't recommend anyone do this. Using a credit card to take out cash at an ATM is called a cash advance, and it's an extremely costly way to borrow. You can read more about cash advances here.

  • 15% off Brooks Brothers purchases for one day after signing up
  • 4 points per dollar on purchases at Brooks Brothers
  • Can't be used at any other store

The Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer is a better choice for anyone who wants a good all-around credit card, while still saving big on Brooks Brothers purchases. This card gives Earn 2% cash back on purchases: 1% when you buy plus 1% as you pay. Unsurprisingly, the Brooks Brothers credit card is more rewarding than the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer when used at Brooks Brothers. However, when it comes to everything else the Citi card wins out. If you shop at Brooks Brothers a few times a year, or more, you should still get the Brooks Brothers Platinum Mastercard to pay for those purchases. But the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer will be the better go-to card for everyday use.

How We Calculate Rewards: ValuePenguin calculates the value of rewards by estimating the dollar value of any points, miles or bonuses earned using the card less any associated annual fees. These estimates here are ValuePenguin's alone, not those of the card issuer, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by the credit card issuer.

Example of how we calculate the rewards rates: When redeemed for travel through Ultimate Rewards, Chase Sapphire Preferred points are worth $0.0125 each. The card awards 2 points on travel and dining and 1 point on everything else. Therefore, we say the card has a 2.5% rewards rate on dining and travel (2 x $0.0125) and a 1.25% rewards rate on everything else (1 x $0.0125).
