The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express is a good option for businesses with irregular cash flow or those that need a little bit of extra financing in the upcoming future. The card gives a long 0% introductory period for a business card – 12 months, after 14.74% - 20.74% Variable. While the rewards on the card aren’t as impressive as what we’ve seen from some its competitors, they are decent for companies spending less than $50,000 per year.

Review: Is The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express Good For Your Business?

The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express is a card intended for businesses with less than $1 million in annual revenue that also worry about cash flow. According to a statement from American Express "The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express is built for freelancers and small business owners in an early stage of growth." There are other solid business rewards credit cards out there, even ones with no annual fee. However, few of these other cards have the same purchase flexibility offered by The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express. First, users get 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 12 months of card membership, after 14.74% - 20.74% Variable.

This card is good for...

  • Companies spending less than $50,000 per year on their card
  • Startups with irregular cash flow

This card is bad for...

  • Business owners who want the absolute highest rewards

Secondly, this card exhibits charge card features, in that it allows you to spend beyond your credit limit. The catch is that any purchases in excess of your credit limit will be due in full that same month. While this doesn’t mean The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express gives you an unlimited credit limit, it does, give you extra buying power.

Bottom Line: The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express is a good option for firms with irregular cash flow, that want a no-annual-fee business credit card. If you’re more concerned about cash back or rewards, we recommend looking at other options instead.

The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express Benefits & Features

The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express has two major benefits: earning Membership Rewards and extending your company's purchasing power. Every purchase you make on the card will earn you one point per dollar. You earn an additional point each year on the first $50,000 in purchases per year. We conservatively value each point at around $0.01, meaning your rewards rate will vary between 1% and 2%.

How We Calculate Rewards: ValuePenguin calculates the value of rewards by estimating the dollar value of any points, miles or bonuses earned using the card less any associated annual fees. These estimates here are ValuePenguin's alone, not those of the card issuer, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by the credit card issuer.

Example of how we calculate the rewards rates: When redeemed for travel through Ultimate Rewards, Chase Sapphire Preferred points are worth $0.0125 each. The card awards 2 points on travel and dining and 1 point on everything else. Therefore, we say the card has a 2.5% rewards rate on dining and travel (2 x $0.0125) and a 1.25% rewards rate on everything else (1 x $0.0125).
