What Are The Best Visa Credit Cards of 2018?

We looked for the best Visa credit cards currently available to consumers. By exploring our database of credit cards, we were able to compare different among many different cards, and figure out which Visa credit cards would be best for several different types of users.

Best Visa Credit Cards For…

If you are confused about the different types of Visa credit cards, such as Signature or Infinite, we suggest reading the guide below before you make your selection.

Best Visa Travel Credit Card: Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is a Visa Signature card, which adds to the card's already long list of benefits for those who love travel. The non-network perks include earning two points per dollar spent on travel and dining, and a 50,000-point bonus for those who spend at least $4,000 on the card within the first 3 months of cardmembership. These points are great for those who love to travel, because they can be transferred to one of many participating hotel or airline programs -- including Southwest, United, IHG and Hyatt.

Through Visa Signature, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card cardmembers can get other perks, such as trip cancellation, interruption and delay insurance. If your baggage is delayed by over 6 hours, the company can also reimburse you for some essential purchases, like toiletries and clothing, up to $100 a day for 5 days. These Visa Signature features combined with this card's rewards program make the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card for people seeking travel rewards.

Highlights

  • 50,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening
  • 2.5% rewards rate on travel and dining; 1.25% rewards rate everywhere else
  • $0 Intro for the First Year. Then $95

Best Visa Credit Card for Students: BankAmericard Travel Rewards® for Students

The BankAmericard Travel Rewards® for Students is one of the better credit cards available to students, especially those who love to travel abroad. The card provides 1.5 points on every single purchase you make. When those points are later traded in for travel statement credit, you are earning a 1.5% rewards rate across all your purchases. That is a solid return, especially for a student credit card. Those who manage to spend at least $1,000 on purchases using this card, within the first 90 days of account opening, will receive 20,000 bonus miles. That comes out to a value of $200.

This card is a standard Visa, so you will be getting the bare bones benefits that typically come from the network. One thing that should be pointed out, is that if you travel abroad Visa tends to be accepted at more merchant locations worldwide than some other card networks, including American Express or Discover.

Highlights

  • 1.5% rewards rate for every $1 you spend on all purchases
  • No annual fee
  • No foreign transaction fees

Best Visa Credit Card for Rewards: Chase Freedom®

The Chase Freedom® is a favorite among both point-optimizers and cash-back-lovers, due to extremely high rewards rates. If you aren't scared of a little bit of management, this card may be one of the best Visa cards for earning rewards. Cardholders earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate. So long as at least 25% of your annual purchases fall in these bonus categories, you will be getting an amazing deal with the Chase Freedom®.

If you don't activate your rewards, this card will give you back a measly 1% back. If you don't think you can remember to activate the card and keep track of where you can earn 5% back, this card is probably not a good for you.

Highlights

  • 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate
  • $150 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening
  • No annual fee

Best No Credit Visa Credit Card: Savings Secured Visa Platinum Card

The SDFCU Savings Secured Visa Platinum Card is a good option if you have no credit and want a Visa credit card. The card doesn't perform any income verification or run a credit check on your account, when you apply. Instead, you simply put down a security deposit (minimum $250) and you receive all the benefits of having a Visa credit card. The card has a fairly low APR of 7.49% -- this is especially good when you compare it to other secured credit cards which typically charge their users 20% or more.

Cardholders also get to earn 1 Flexpoint per dollar, which translates back to a 1% rewards rate. This is another feature rare among secured credit cards. Most don't come with any rewards whatsoever.

Highlights

  • 7.49 percent Annual Percentage Rate (APR)
  • 1 Flexpoint per dollar spent
  • Minimum security deposit of $250

Best Visa Credit Card No Annual Fee: BankAmericard Travel Rewards® Credit Card

The BankAmericard Travel Rewards® Credit Card is among the best credit cards, especially if you are someone with a Bank of America deposit account. Like the student card we'll discuss below, this card earns 1.5 points per dollar spent, which translates back to a 1.5% rewards rate. If you have a BofA account, you can get between a 10% and 75% bonus on top of that rewards rate. How much extra you'll get depends on the amount you have deposited with the bank. To get the best the best bonus, you will need to have money deposited with the select investment accounts. You can read more about the Preferred Rewards program here.

Beyond the rewards, this credit card also doesn't charge any foreign transaction fees, making it a good overseas companion. Many other cards tend to charge their users 3% every time a card is used and passes through a foreign bank.

Highlights

  • 1.5% rewards rate on all purchases
  • 20,000 bonus points if you make at least $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of your account opening
  • Bank of America customers receive a bonus between 10% and 75%, depending on type of membership

Best Visa Credit Card for Cash Back: Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® Card

Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® Card
This card is not available through ValuePenguin.

If you're looking for cash back rewards, the Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® Card is one of the best. You can get 2% cash back on all your purchases, no matter where you shop. That makes this card simple and easy to use. You never have to worry about optimizing your card choice. Instead, you get an above-average rewards rate on all your purchases. This is especially good for those who have very varied spending, and don't shop at traditional credit card rewards categories.

The catch: the cash back needs to be deposited into an eligible Fidelity investment account. If you choose to withdraw your rewards in another way, you will get a sub-2% rewards rate. Eligible accounts include nonretirement registrations as well as Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, Rollover IRA, SEP IRA, and Fidelity®-managed 529 College Savings Plan accounts.

Highlights

  • 2% cash back into an eligible Fidelity account
  • No annual fee
  • Points never expire

Best Luxury Hotel Visa Credit Card: Ritz-Carlton Rewards Credit Card

The Ritz-Carlton Rewards Credit Card is worth mentioning, especially because it is one of the only Visa Infinite credit cards available to people in the United States. Visa Infinite has the special benefit of giving a $100 discount anytime this card is used to pay for domestic round-trip airfare for a group of 2-5 people. The wording on this benefit does not limit this benefit through any annual cap. Keep in mind, however, that this card also has a $450 annual fee, making it quite pricy.

In terms of rewards, this card is really best for people who stay at Ritz-Carlton properties every year. You get to earn 5 points per dollar when paying for those and SPG hotels, plus free upgrades to the Ritz-Calrton Club Level when you stay at these properties (up to 3 times annually). On top of the Visa Infinite benefit, cardholders also get a $300 annual travel credit that can be used to pay for things like baggage fees, seat upgrades, and even airport lounge access.

Highlights

  • One of the few Visa Infinite credit cards
  • $300 annual travel credit
  • Two complimentary nights at any participating Tier 1-4 Ritz-Carlton hotel, after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months after account opening

Compare Visa Credit Cards Based On How You Spend

The best way to choose a credit card is to consider how you spend your money. The tool below will allow you to compare the rewards across many top tier Visa credit cards by entering your estimated monthly spending.

Card Annual Fee 2-yr Net Rewards Rate

The Net Rewards Rate is equal to the Rewards Value over two years divided by the total spending. The total spending is equal to the values entered into the tool and multiplied by 24 months. See the rewards Value note to see details on how it is calculated.

The estimates here are ValuePenguin's alone. They are not those of the card issuer, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by the credit card issuer. All estimates are based on the spend assumptions entered above (which you can edit).

Bonus Value

The bonus field shows our estimate for the value of the card’s welcome bonus. If the bonus is point or mile based, we multiply the total bonus points/miles by our estimate for their value to arrive at a dollar equivalent. We display $0 if there is no bonus or if the user doesn’t qualify for the bonus based on the current spending entered into the tool. All estimates are based on the spend assumptions entered above (which you can edit).

2-yr Rewards Value

The Rewards value is calculated by adding together the rewards earned from charging purchases to the card over two years and any welcome bonuses (if applicable). They are then multiplied by our estimated point/mile value, with any annual fees (if applicable) subtracted. All values are based on our own estimates for the dollar value of any points, miles or bonuses earned using a card and on the spend assumptions entered above (which you can edit).

What You Need To Know About Visa Credit Cards

It’s crucial that consumers shopping for Visa credit cards understand that not all of these cards are created equal. Currently, there are three major variants of Visa cards on the market, and these can come equipped with vastly different benefits. The three types are Visa, Visa Signature and Visa Infinite. If you heard of a Visa perk that sold you on the idea of getting one of these cards, you should verify that this benefit is available on a card that appeals to you. Below we outline some of the most important benefits for each Visa-card-type.

  • Visa: This is the standard, boilerplate type of Visa credit card. With this, you will get the standard benefits that you get with almost any other credit card network – zero fraud liability and an auto rental collision damage waiver. These types of credit cards are sometimes referred to as Visa Traditional.
  • Visa Signature:These types of Visa credit cards come with some more luxury benefits, including roadside dispatch and travel and emergency assistance services. Visa Signature cardholders also have access to a concierge that can book certain travel, restaurant and event reservations. Beyond that, you also get access to all the regular benefits that come equipped with Visa Traditional.
  • Visa Infinite:The rarest type of Visa credit card within the United States. Most of the benefits that come with this are the same ones you’d see with Visa Signature. One notable exception to this rule is the annual travel discount. When you use a Visa Infinite card to pay for a domestic round-trip airfare for anywhere between 2 and 5 people, you receive a $100 discount. Note that this benefit is not extended to all Visa Infinite cards, so you should double check before assuming you have it.

No matter which type of Visa credit card you get, they will all be accepted at any establishment that already takes Visa.
