The Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card offers a fixed rewards rate on all of the spending you do with it –- 1.5 points for every dollar spent. Because every single point translates to $0.01 in travel statement credit, that works out to a fixed 1.5% rewards rate on all purchases you make. There are two benefits to this kind of reward structure that elevates this card to the realm of “best”. First, having above average rewards on all purchases, versus a select few, gives you a lot more flexibility. For example, if you were to suddenly make $2,000 in purchases at furniture and appliance stores, a card like the Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card will give you higher rewards than most other offers. The only caveat to this, is that the rewards you earn must be used to pay down travel purchases on your credit card. If you don't vacation at least once per year, finding use for your points can be tricky.

If you do travel, there is a lot to like in the Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card. It’s one of the few credit cards to have both no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees. Most credit cards, even most Bank of America cards, will charge you a 3% fee whenever you use it when travelling abroad.

The Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card also has one of the best welcome bonuses of any Bank of America credit card. Users can get 25,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. These points are equivalent to $250 in travel statement credit.

Highlights

  • 1.5 points for every dollar you spend
  • 25,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of account opening
  • Reward points can be used as travel statement credit, to pay down charges on your card

The Asiana Airlines Credit Card is a great airline mile credit card, especially for those who spend heavily on gas and groceries. Most airline credit cards tend to have straightforward rewards programs. They have a great rewards rate when shopping with the co-branded airline, and a subpar rate on all other purchases. However, the Asiana Airlines Credit Card breaks this trend, and gives cardholders good savings on gas and grocery purchases - a rewards rate of 2.8% on each. Asiana purchases earn you a 4.2% rate, and everything else a decent 1.4%.

Though Asiana Airlines services nine airports in the United States, it belongs to Star Alliance, the world's biggest airline partnership. That means you can use the miles you earn through this card to book flights on any of their 27 member carriers, including Air Canada, United Airlines, and Lufthansa.

Highlights

  • Every cardmember year you receive: 2 Asiana Airlines lounge invitations, A 10,000 bonus Miles certificate, A $100 automatic rebate on Asiana Airlines tickets

Methodology For Choosing Best Bank of America Credit Cards

Our list of best credit cards is based on a mix of quantitative data and qualitative analysis done by our credit card team. On the qualitative side of things, we considered how easy rewards are to use, and how many things consumers can do with their benefits. Additionally, we consider the long-term value of each card, in order to account for the boost provided by generous signup bonuses.

To create a quantitative baseline for comparison, we estimated savings for each card based on a sample consumer profile. The reward estimates are based on the Average Consumer Expenditure Data collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the debt data is based on our analysis of Federal Reserve and U.S. Census Bureau data. For reward credit cards, we applied the following monthly spending structure:

  • General (All other expenditures, entertainment, apparel and services): $670
  • Groceries (food at home): $330
  • Gas (gasoline and motor oil): $200
  • Dining (good away from home): $230

How We Calculate Rewards: ValuePenguin calculates the value of rewards by estimating the dollar value of any points, miles or bonuses earned using the card less any associated annual fees. These estimates here are ValuePenguin's alone, not those of the card issuer, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by the credit card issuer.

Example of how we calculate the rewards rates: When redeemed for travel through Ultimate Rewards, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card points are worth $0.0125 each. The card awards 2 points on travel and dining and 1 point on everything else. Therefore, we say the card has a 2.5% rewards rate on dining and travel (2 x $0.0125) and a 1.25% rewards rate on everything else (1 x $0.0125).
