The Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card is a bad deal and should be avoided. It has no rewards program, a lackluster bonus, and questionable long-term benefits. If you're after a cash back credit card for clothes purchases, we recommend checking out alternatives.
Review: Why You Shouldn't Apply for the Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card
We don't recommend anyone apply for the Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card. It has no rewards program, offers an unclear set of other benefits, and comes with an extremely high interest rate. If you're in need of a credit card, or want cash back on your clothes shopping, we recommend checking out these alternatives.
In general, store credit cards don't have a great reputation. They tend to be restrictive, have low credit limits and high interest rates. Despite that, many come with some redeemable qualities that can make them worthwhile. The Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card unfortunately does not offer useful benefits except for the following:
- 25% off your first purchase
- Exclusive cardholder offers
- A special birthday surprise
Besides the 25% discount, we couldn't verify what the other two offers were. We spoke with representatives from Comenity, the card's issuer, and Abercrombie & Fitch. On multiple calls, we were routed to different departments with each representative telling us the next department would have our answer. But we never received answers. This coincides with many reports from users online complaining of disappointing customer service experiences.
While the 25% discount on the first purchase may seem like a good deal at first, there are two things to consider. Most credit cards come with signup bonuses that are far better than this card offers.. Furthermore, even if a rewards credit card had no sign up bonus, it would still produce far greater rewards in the long-run because it would offer cash back on everyday purchases.
Bottom Line: Avoid the Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card.
Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card Benefits & Features
The Abercrombie & Fitch credit card doesn't come with many perks, other than occasional discounts available only for cardmembers. Once you're approved for the card, you get a 25% discount on your first purchase. After that, the benefits are vague. Abercrombie & Fitch promises exclusive cardholder offers and special birthday surprises. We contacted multiple customer service representatives from Abercrombie & Fitch as well as Comenity Bank. Neither could provide any more details on the discounts. On one occasion, we were informed the benefits would be mailed to us after we applied for the card. However, we cannot verify this.
The Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card can only be used in-store. It cannot be used at any Abercrombie & Fitch subsidiary, including Hollister.
What Are Some Good Alternatives to the Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card?
If you're in the market for a new credit card there are some good alternatives available. These credit cards can help you save money on purchases at Abercrombie & Fitch and beyond.
The Chase Freedom® has the potential to be an amazing money-saving tool. The card provides 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter. These bonus categories can include things like Zappos, Amazon.com, wholesale clubs and department stores. In the past, we've also seen the Chase Freedom® include both H&M and Kohl's. New categories are introduced every year, which generally means there is something for everyone.
The card currently comes with a sizable early spend bonus. Cardholders can get $150 if they spend at least $500 on purchases within the first three months of opening their account. That translates to a rewards rate of 30% ($150/$500). That is better than the 25% bonus you receive through the Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card.
- Earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate. Enjoy new 5% categories every 3 months. Unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases.
- $150 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first three months from account opening.
- $0 annual fee.

Discover it® Secured
The Discover it® Secured is an excellent cash back option for people with low credit. If your FICO is below 670, you're unlikely to qualify for the two cards listed above. Though the rewards at places like Abercrombie & Fitch will be a measly 1% cash back, it's still better than not getting any rewards as you would through the Abercrombie & Fitch Credit Card. The Discover it® Secured is most rewarding when it comes to spending at restaurants and gas station. Cardholders get 2% cash back in these categories on up to $1,000 in combined purchases each quarter. Plus, earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases – automatically. Discover also doubles all the cash back you've earned at the end of your first cardmember year in lieu of a traditional welcome bonus.
However, the Discover it® Secured is a secured credit card. You need to put down at least $200 to open an account. After eight months, your account will be reviewed. If you've made all of your payments on time and demonstrated creditworthiness, your account will be transitioned to an unsecured one, and your initial deposit will be returned.
- Earn 2% cash back at Gas stations and Restaurants on up to $1,000 in combined purchases each quarter. Plus, earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases – automatically.
- Discover doubles all cash back at the end of your first year.
- Requires security deposit.
